Ernest William Shay

Ernest William Shay was born in 1913, son of Chola Nicholas Shay and Sadie M Henry Shay. Ernie lived with his parents up until his father passed in 1929. He then went to stay with his maternal grandparents, John ans Susan Henry. According to the 1940 census, Ernie was living and working with his brother, Harold.

After 1940, Ernie married and had at least one son.

Ernie relocated to Florida in 1984 where he spent his final years. According to his obituary, at the time of his passing, Ernie was the last living Veteran of WWII in Florida. Ernie had served with the US Navy during the conflict.

Ernest William Shay died in 2011 just before his 98th birthday. He is buried at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida.
