John L Whitehead

John L Whitehead was the first of Abraham and Sarah Ann’s children.

In 1858 at the age of 19, John married Elizabeth “Eliza” Miley and the two moved to West Windsor, New Jersey. According to the 1860 census, John worked as a day laborer and Eliza was a homemaker. John and Eliza eventually settled in Hopewell, New Jersey and had 6 children: Sarah J (1859-1889) who married Andrew McDowell Blake, John A (1865-1915), James P (1866-1890), Emeley S (1869-1945), Kate L (1871-1872), and Edward R (1873).

John L passed away at the age of 94 and is buried at Highland Cemetery in Hopewell, NJ.
