Mercy Lake Fink

Mercy Lake was born in Wertsville, NJ in 1855 and was the second child of 9 born to Aaron Lake and Mary Danberry Lake of Hunterdon County.

Mercy married John Fink in 1873 and they had 4 girls: Mary, Anne, Velma and Julia.

Mercy’s father Aaron, born in 1827, was a farm laborer. He registered for the Civil War at the age of 36, though there are no records of him serving. The Lake family has a long history in the northeastern United States. It has been said that Aaron’s father Henry Lake was part or full American Indian, though no concrete evidence has been found. Mercy’s mother Mary Danberry, born in 1837, was a housekeeper. The Danberry family also has a long history in the northeastern United States. Mary’s grandfather William served as a private for the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War at the age of 15.

Mercy died in 1948 and is buried with her husband at Highland Cemetery in Hopewell, NJ.
