Herbert Whitehead

Herbert was the fourth child and son born to Samuel and Velma. In the 1920 census at the age of 15, Herbert was already listed as a farm laborer working at the home farm in Ringoes. This means that at most, Herbert only completed schooling through the eighth grade.

In 1935, Herbert was involved in an auto accident near Pennington on the 25th of August. Diagnosis was a possible fracture of the inner table (skull fracture) with bleeding. Herbert survived 2 weeks in the hospital before passing. Herbert’s death was the first of a string of tragic family deaths. He is buried in a plot at Highland Cemetery with his parents and two of his brothers.
