John Harold Whitehead

John Harold, better known by his middle name, was the second child born to Samuel and Velma. Harold spent his childhood at home working on the farm and went out on his own by the age of 19.

On July 2, 1927 Harold married Edith Hann. Their union was presided over by Rev. Lewis J. Gordon, pastor of the Kingwood M.E. Church, at his residence on the Frenchtown-Milford Road. Three months later their first son, Leslie, was born. Harold and Edith had 6 children during the course of their marriage: Leslie H (1927-1977), Charles Stanley “Nucky” (1928-1994), Marion (1930-2009), Phyllis “Jeanie” (1932), Lois Olive “Missy” (1933-2001), and Bernice “Birdie” (1935).

His first wife passed in 1969 at the age of 52. Harold married his second wife Edith Stocker Pierman sometime after the death of his first wife.

in 1930, the family was living in Lambertville and Harold was listed as working as a horseman at a riding school. In about 1935, Harold took a job with the State Highway Department where he worked for 29 years.

Harold died at Doylestown Hospital in Pennsylvania in 1978. He is buried at Highland Cemetery in Hopewell.
