John Wesley Vanderhoof

John Wesley was the tenth child born to Garret and Catherine Winters Vanderhoof. He lived in the West Milford area through at least 1860 when he was living with his older brother David. Some time prior to 1870 John ventured west, settling first in Logan, Ohio and working as a farmhand.

On October 8, 1874, John married Elizabeth Evangeline Henderson, daughter of Samuel and Matilda Uln Henderson and the two had eight children; Garrett Evans, Albert Henderson, Margaret Rebecca, Matildia Florence, Carrie Eva, Henry Chillian, Mac Harrison and an infant who was un-named and died young.

By 1880 the family settled in Tallyrand, Wilson County, Kansas where they would stay at least until John's death in 1900.

John is buried in Neodesha Cemetery, Neodesha, Wilson, Kansas with his wife and several children.
