Marritje Jans Van Blarcom Hopper

Birth: 30 Dec 1661 · Bergen, New Jersey
Death: Unknown

Marritje Jans Van Blarcom was baptized on December 30, 1661 and was the second daughter of Jan Lubbertsen Van Blarcom and Madelena Theunis Van Blarcom. She was apparently named for her sister who died as an infant prior to her birth.

On March 14, 1680, Marritje married Hendrick Hopper, son of Andries Hopper and Gietje Steinmets from New Amsterdam, New York. Marritje and Hendrick had eight children, all but the first were born in Polifly/Hackensack, New Jersey. Andries (1680, m. Abigail Ackerman), Jan H (1682, m. Rachel Terhune), Willem (1684), Tryntje (1685, m. Pieter Gerritsen Van Allen), Leah (1691, m. Chrisitan Zabriskie), Rachel (m. Barent DeBoog), Gerrit H (1696, m. Catrina Cassouw), and Geertje (1699, m. Hendrick Zabriskie).1

Marritje and her husband joined the Hackensack Reformed Church on September 22, 1694. The family lived on land obtained from Major John Berry in Hackensack, New Jersey.1

On December 27, 1724 Marritje Van Blarcom Hopper and her husband Hendrick Hopper witnessed a baptism. This is currently the last known record of either of them.1
