Joseph C Van Blarcom

Birth: 16 Aug 1843 · Lafayette Township, Sussex, New Jersey
Death: 24 May 1932 · Middlesex Boro, Middlesex, New Jersey

Joseph Van Blarcom was the third son of William Van Blarcom and Catherine A. Sutton. He was born in Lafayette Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, on August 16, 1843, and was laid to rest in Middlesex Boro, Middlesex County, New Jersey, on March 24, 1932. Joseph had 4 brothers, Lewis William, Garret, Andrew J., and William, as well as 3 sisters, Lucy A., Susan C., and Hannah.

On November 18, 1868, Joseph married Sarah C. Ackerson in Lafayette Township. Joseph was widowed in March 1875, and remarried on November 19, 1890, taking Mary Bevans as his wife. Mary was also a widower, losing her husband Coe B. Shay in 1878. Joseph and Mary had one child together, William Ackerson Van Blarcom. Mary passed in May 1916, widowing Joseph a second time.

Joseph spent all of his life in New Jersey living in Lafayette, Frankford, and Middlesex. He mainly worked as a farmer and was self-employed.

He was living in Middlesex with his son William, daughter-in-law Ruth, and his two grandchildren when he passed away during the March of 1932. His death certificate lists the principle cause of death as chronic myocarditis, or an inflammation of heart muscle (myocardium). Joseph lived nearly 89 years, making him the longest living member of this family line. He is listed as being buried in Layton Cemetery in Sussex County, New Jersey, though a headstone is not present. It is possible, though not confirmed, that he is buried with one of his wives, as both are buried in adjoining plots.
