Martha Ball

Martha was born about 1722. Her maiden name and parents are currently unknown.

She married first John Tompkins and had four children; Jonas, Martha, Enos and John. Martha married second Joshua Ball, son of Caleb Ball and Elizabeth Peck, on September 7, 1760. Martha and Joshua had two children; Jemima and Joshua.

She was an employee of the Ford Family who sheltered George Washington in Morristown, New Jersey.

Old newspapers say Joshua Ball's second wife Martha was one of the first to die of smallpox in the 1777 epidemic. Martha died on January 11, 1777 at Hanover, Morris, New Jersey.
