Stephen Crane was the fifth child born to Isaac Ball and Sarah Burnett Ball.
On October 26, 1845 Stephen married Elizabeth Titus. Stephen and Elizabeth had four children: William Henry (1847-1899), James Edwin (1849-1896), Emma (1852-1854) and Harriet E (1858-1894).
According to census documents, Stephen worked as a shoemaker.
Stephen Crane Ball died in 1893. his burial is currently unverified.
